Cindy DiPrima
Cindy DiPrima is the co-founder of CAP Beauty, a clean beauty retailer with locations in Manhattan’s West Village and at Fred Segal in Los Angeles. With the motto “Beauty Is Wellness,” she and her partner, Kerrilyn Pamer, want to spread the power of naturals to as many people as possible.
The book that has had the biggest impact on me is Joan Didion’s The White Album. Joan Didion’s writing is so emotional, so feminine, and still so cool. And her insights on art, style, and culture are brilliant.
A major challenge I’ve faced was learning to say no. Not every client is a good fit and not every partnership makes sense. At CAP our mission is simple: We want to get cleaner, better products into the hands of as many people as possible. It’s our North Star and guides every decision we make.
The first thing I do every morning is envision my day and what it will hold. I kiss my husband, kiss my kids. Then I make a pot of organic coffee in our Chemex and enjoy as much quiet as I can while the others sleep.
The biggest gamble I’ve ever taken is when we decided to create CAP Beauty. At the time I was a freelance stylist and my business partner, Kerrilynn, owned a clothing store. I could keep styling, but she decided to close her store and devote herself 100% to CAP. To cement the decision, she didn’t buy a spring collection for 2015. CAP had to work because she had no backup plan. I’m a big believer in this idea. If there’s a safety net, we tend to use it. When we are brave enough to give that up, we have to succeed.
My first job was assisting a production designer on a sketch comedy show on MTV and what I learned from it was how to find just about anything under the sun and get it sent anywhere fast!
The biggest challenge that women entrepreneurs face is doing it all. When I had my oldest, my sister-in-law told me to always know that it takes a village. I remind myself of that on a daily basis.
Clean beauty is important because it is vital to our health to use products that are free from hormone disruptors and synthetic additives. These ingredients not only detract from our wellbeing, they also undermine our beauty. There is nothing more gorgeous than vitality and radiant health.
The most important thing you can do for your skin is eat well, sweat, care for it with clean products, and get regular facial massages.
I maintain balance in my life by prioritizing fitness and self-care, and making these part of my consistent daily routine. I also escape to the country almost every weekend, where I have no call service and no Internet. It’s a weekly unplug and it’s heaven.
The one thing I would like to say to every woman in the world is make self-care a priority. We don’t all have to be vegan or yoga teachers, or shamanic healers, but in some way, shape, or form, discover what it is that fuels your vitality and commit. Every aspect of your life will benefit.
